Happy TGIF Everyone!
Yesssss, the weekend is finally here! Unfortunately, I’m so drained from this past week, I’m pretty sure this weekend will end up being wasted sleeping along with the rest. In fact, I’ll probably take myself a quick cat nap right after I’m done writing this up š
Regardless though, give yourself a pat on the back, you’ve made it through the week. So kick back, kick your feet up, and checkout today’s KickStart Me! š
Today’s featured project is about Color. A joyous topic to talk about as color represents diversity, uniqueness, expansion, and so much more!
Abigail M is a visual artist based out of Chicago, Illinois. She is also very highly skilled in illustration, photography, graphic design, and film-making.
Abigail has recently begun a smaller-scale project, entitled “Rich in Color”. The project is set to be an extension of Abigail’s exploration in the underground medium of experimental photography. She also aims for the project to be a sort of study into using under-appreciated art forms to help illustrate an under-represented people within the visual art world.
My idea for the project came from the study of art history. In many lessons on mostly European paintings of wealthy, aristocratic people, it dawned on me the lack of focus on other ethnic groups of people that were around at the times and places illustrated in these famed artworks. Even today in commercial, fashion, and film industries, there is a small percentage of women of color being utilized in all forms of art. To me, this lack thereof has a bigger effect on women’s worth to an entire society. Without the diversification of art, how will future generations still think of race diversity? Will they wrestle with the same issue we do today?
The projects main focal point will be based around what the visual art world would look like, if diversity played an active focal role. Abigal say’s the she has found various beautiful and talented woman that would be great to capture during the photo shoot.
The project is in need of a small goal of $145, as most of the funds will be going towards equipment and props, and the production of prints and stickers for those who decide to donate, afterwards.
The project’s shooting time is set to take place approximately between April 15th – 24th.
